About Our School

Sandgate is a special school for children and young people between the ages of three and nineteen years of age. Some children join the school at three years old, or just before. Most will join us at a later stage in their education, perhaps at reception class, or at the start of secondary education, after attending a primary school, or at any other point when parents and professionals feel that Sandgate would be the right place for their child. Older pupils, currently from year 10 (age 14) and above, are educated at our Sandgate at the Queen Katherine facility, at the Queen Katherine School on the Appleby Road in Kendal.

Our Vision

Our Vision is to secure 'Achievement for All'. Our mission is to fulfil this through developing every child's personality, abilities and talents to the full, to be the best they can be.

All pupils attending the school have a Educational, Health and Care plan, which describes their needs as being severe, or profound, multiple or complex. Cumbria Local Authority is the admissions body for the school, in consultation with the governors and Senior Leadership Team.
