Equality of Opportunity

It is acknowledged that celebrating diversity strengthens our communities.

All children and young people attending Sandgate and Sandgate at QKS have a statement of educational need, describing severe or profound learning needs. However, there is nonetheless a very wide range need within the school.

Our curriculum aims state: ‘Whoever you are, the curriculum at Sandgate should help you achieve the best possible quality of life, with the greatest personal fulfilment, as is possible.’

To achieve this, teachers split their class into a range of groupings, at different times, covering whole class, small group and 1:1 individual work programmes. Pupils have individual education plans, which indicate the main educational targets for the term ahead, and the school uses an assessment system which enables the smallest steps of attainment to be acknowledged.

It is the ethos of the school that all pupils have an equal entitlement to benefit from what the school has to offer, and practice is constantly reviewed to ensure that this is the case.

All learners are valued and respected as equal members of the learning community.

All learners should receive the support necessary to progress towards their potential.
