Sandgate SEND Offer
Vacancies
As a school for children and young people with severe, complex and profound learning needs, supporting those special educational needs and ensuring they are met, is at the core of our work, and ensuring those needs are met is crucial to our success. All relevant information regarding how children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) are supported is found throughout the school website.

As a result of recent national revisions to systems to support children with SEND, all children entering the school after September 2014 will have an Education, Health and Care Plan. The aim of the plan is to take a long term view of what the best possible outcomes for the child would be, and to plan the input across services to ensure this is achieved. This will be reviewed on an annual basis, replacing the previous annual review of the statement.

During 2014 and 2015, statements of many pupils at Sandgate will be transferred to the new Education Health and Care Plan, with all to be transferred by September 2017.

All students, whether with an EHCP or statement have termly individual education plans, and physio and communication plans where appropriate. All students are assessed termly using the Connecting Steps assessment system, which allows for very small steps of progress to be recognised. A number of students use the Routes for Learning system instead which identifies stages of development, engagement and response from a more holistic viewpoint.

All curriculum is differentiated, and some students have further personalisation to their curriculum,. We avoid the 'one size fits all' approach wherever possible.

Our 'offer' to children who attend Sandgate is, quite simply, that we will help you become 'the best you possibly can'.
