EYFS - Catbells and Helm

At Sandgate, we create a rich and engaging learning environment where our Early Years students are supported to explore the world around them and understand their place within it. Using a blend of purposeful play, sensory experiences, and carefully structured adult-led activities, we encourage curiosity, foster emotional well-being, and promote holistic development. We also emphasize the development of essential life skills, such as independence, resilience, and cooperation, which form a vital foundation for future learning and life.

We underpin our learning and assessment with a tailored communication framework, Sandgate Pre-Steps, which is closely linked to Birth to 5 Matters and progression pathway frameworks. This ensures a clear and structured approach to tracking and supporting each child’s development. Our approach allows us to track progress in key areas such as communication, physical development, personal, social, and emotional growth, and the development of life skills. These frameworks provide a comprehensive pathway to support children in developing the skills and confidence they need for the next steps in their learning journey. All students have individual education plans and targets are carefully tailored to address their specific needs and promote progress in all areas of development.

We prioritize small class sizes and a high staff-to-student ratio, ensuring that each child receives the personalized support they need. This allows us to tailor learning programmes and group sessions to meet the individual development needs of every child, supporting their progress in a way that aligns with their unique abilities.

Beyond the classroom, we place a strong emphasis on connecting with the local community and offering enriching learning experiences through trips and outings. These experiences allow children to engage with the world outside school, building confidence, expanding their understanding of the world around them, and providing opportunities to develop life skills in real-world contexts.

We believe in the importance of strong home-school partnerships and, through our online learning journey, Evidence for Learning, we keep families closely involved in their child's learning. Regular updates on their child's progress, achievements, and next steps ensure parents and carers are fully informed and can actively support their child's development. At Sandgate, we work together to help every child thrive, providing them with the best possible foundation for their future, including the life skills they need to navigate the world with confidence.
